Two men are in the Sarasota County Jail after a home invasion and shooting Wednesday night in Venice. Venice Police responded to a home off Laurel Road East around 11 p.m. after two male suspects entered the residence and fired shots. The suspects fled on foot, and one of them stole the homeowner’s firearm during the escape. No one was injured by the gunfire.
Officers quickly established a perimeter, and a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team joined the search. Both suspects were tracked down and arrested without further incident. K-9 Palmer then located and recovered the stolen firearm nearby, returning it to its owner.
Police have not released the suspects’ names, ages, or formal charges, and the investigation remains ongoing. Residents in the Laurel Road East area may notice additional patrol activity as detectives continue their work. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Venice Police Department.
