CHARLOTTE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR ANDREA MESSINA ANNOUNCED TUESDAY HER INTENT TO RUN FOR THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY COMMISSION SEAT CURRENT HELD BY EMBATTLED COMMISSIONER ROBERT SKIDMORE. PUBLISHED REPORTS SAY MESSINA, A REPUBLICAN, HAS SERVED FOUR TIMES AS SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR SINCE HER ELECTION IN 2000, WHICH IRONICALLY WAS A VICTORY OVER SKIDMORE. SHE SAID IN A PRESS RELEASE THAT CHARLOTTE COUNTY IS HER COUNTY AND DISTRICT THREE IS HER NEIGHBORHOOD. SHE FEELS IT’S IMPERATIVE THAT THE NEXT COMMISSIONER BE CAPABLE OF DELIVERING EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP TO THE ENTIRE COUNTY. MESSINA HAS SERVED ON THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’S GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE FOR BOTH THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY CHAMBER AND THE ENGLEWOOD/CAPE HAZE CHAMBER. ANOTHER NOTED ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR MESSINA WAS BEING TAPPED BY THEN US SENATOR KAY BAILEY HUTCHINSON OF TEXAS TO SERVE AS A PANELIST AT HER BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON IN 2008.
