Key Chorale has secured more than $170,000 in grants for its 42nd season, and the funding reaches far beyond the concert hall. Ten organizations contributed, including The Exchange, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
The grants support three core efforts. Key Notes Express, in partnership with Upward Notes, brings music to underserved elementary students in Sarasota and Manatee counties. The Student Scholar Leadership Program prepares high school musicians for college and music careers. And senior choirs serve residents living with Parkinson’s disease, dementia and memory loss, including the Come Together Choir Initiative.
The season is titled “Where Sound Becomes Story,” and CEO and Artistic Director Joseph Caulkins says the funding allows Key Chorale to deepen its reach and present a season that lifts and unites the community. For a region built on philanthropy and the arts, this is local money doing local good.
