NORTH PORT POLICE SAY A GRANDMOTHER AND HER TODDLER GRANDSON WERE INJURED WHEN THEY WERE STRUCK BY A CITY VEHICLE YESTERDAY.  POLICE SAY 39 YEAR OLD MICHAEL JUGENHEIMER OF NORTH PORT WAS NORTHBOUND ON NIMBUS DRIVE NEAR TOOLEY STREET AT AROUND 10AM WHEN HE VEERED LEFT INTO THE ONCOMING TRAVEL LANE.  50 YEAR OLD MARIA KALAPATI OF NORTH PORT WAS PUSHING 22 MONTH OLD LUCAS KALAPATI IN A STROLLER AGAINST THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON NORTHBOUND NIMBUS WHEN THE TRUCK HIT THE WOMAN AND STROLLER.  THE WOMAN WAS TAKEN TO THE NORTH PORT EMERGENCY ROOM WITH A MINOR HEAD INJURY, WHILE THE GRANDSON WAS FLOWN TO ALL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN TAMPA WITH A MORE SERIOUS HEAD INJURY.  POLICE SAID SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT AND CHARGES ARE PENDING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR INVESTIGATION.
