THE CITY OF VENICE HAS SELECTED CAPTAIN TOM MCNULTY FROM THREE FINALISTS TO RUN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT THERE.  MCNULTY WAS NAMED CHIEF OVER FORMER NORTH PORT POLICE CHIEF AND CURRENT INTERIM CITY MANAGER TERRY LEWIS AND CLEARWATER POLICE CHIEF MARK TEUNIS.  VENICE INTERIM CITY MANAGER NANCY WOODLEY MADE THE RECOMMENDATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THEY VOTED 6-1 TO PROMOTE THE CAPTAIN.  COUNCILMAN EMILIO CARLESIMO WAS THE LONE DISSENTER, SAYING THE OTHER TWO CANDIDATES WERE MORE QUALIFIED THAN MCNULTY.  MCNULTY HAS BEEN WITH THE VENICE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE PAST 23 YEARS, AND HE REPLACES JULIE WILLIAMS, WHO RESIGNED IN OCTOBER.  MCNULTY SAYS HE WANTS TO BUILD A POSITIVE CULTURE AND HE WILL STAND ON THE FOUNDATION OF FAIRNESS AND RESPECT.  HE IS EXPECTED TO BE SWORN IN AT THE NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON MAY 10TH.
