AN ENGLEWOOD MAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT IN FRONT OF THE McDONALDS EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.  THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 24 YEAR OLD GREGORY BENO WAS HEADING EAST OF THE DRIVEWAY OF McDONALDS AT SOUTH McCALL AND BEACH ROADS JUST AFTER 6:30AM TO MAKE A LEFT-HAND TURN ONTO SOUTH McCALL WHEN HE HIT A MOTORCYCLE THAT WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE RIGHT LANE THAT WAS DRIVEN BY 35 YEAR OLD ANTHONY POLITO.  POLITO TRIED TO AVOID BENO’S PONTIAC, BUT THE FRONT OF HIS BIKE HIT THE FRONT OF THE CAR, THROWING HIM ONTO THE ROADWAY.  POLITO ENDED UP IN THE RIGHT NORTHBOUND LANE OF SOUTH McCALL ROAD.  HE WAS FLOWN OUT BY MEDSTAR HELICOPTER TO LEE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN CRITICAL CONDITION WHILE BENO WAS NOT INJURED.  TROOPERS WERE ON SCENE FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND SAY CHARGES ARE PENDING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR INVESTIGATION.
